Dean Champman grew up next door to April and Jay Reid. As long as Dean can remember, he has had a crush on April. What Dean doesn't know is that while he has been fantasizing about April, Jay has been feeling the same for him.
When Jay's feelings come out, Dean reacts the way he always does: on impulse, without thinking. He is not gay, Jay is a good friend, but he is not interested in him like that.
Having his sexuality called into question shines a harsh light on the rest of Dean's life.
Yet, the sexual attraction Dean has for Jay can be denied and they begin a physical relationship. Dean likes sex, and he tells himself that sex with Jay is just a physical release and nothing more. Yet, he can't seem to stay away from his angel.
This story has a strong sense of reality. The emotional and mental struggle that Dean experiences comes through beautifully in this book. As I was reading, I felt the struggles along with him. And who would not feel confused in the situation Dean finds himself in. So he lashes out and hurts Jay. Yes, at times I could have smacked Dean over the head. And I think most readers will too. He flip-flops between being a jerk and being a sweet caring friend to Jay. Yet, there are many telling scenes where Dean's actions show his true feelings.
Jay is a sensitive man. He has always loved Dean. But he knows that their relationship is going to break his heart in the end. Yet, he still wants the time he has with him. I found Jay to be a strong character, he knows who he is and what he wants. Yes, it may seem that Jay is letting himself be used by Dean, but Jay went in to this relationship with his eyes wide open and knew what he was getting into.
April was great--she was very protective of her brother, Jay. Yet willing to do anything so that he could have his wish.
I found this book to be a fast paced read. It had no slow spots for me, it flowed beautifully from one scene to the next. The characters stayed with me long after I read it. I love it !
